This document lists the API changes introduced by the different versions of Bitwig Studio.

API version 4

The following classes have been updated or added in API version 4.

ClipLauncherSlotOrScene

The following methods have been added to the ClipLauncherSlotOrScene class in API version 4.

• copyFrom (source:com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.ClipLauncherSlotOrScene): void
  Copies the current slot or scene into the dest slot or scene.
• moveTo (dest:com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.ClipLauncherSlotOrScene): void
  Moves the current slot or scene into the destination slot or scene.

ColorValue

The following methods have been added to the ColorValue class in API version 4.

• alpha (): float
  Gets the alpha component of the current value.

SettableRangedValue

The following methods have been added to the SettableRangedValue class in API version 4.

• setImmediately (value:double): void
  Sets the value in an absolute fashion as a value between 0 .

API version 3

The following classes have been updated or added in API version 3.

ObjectProxy

The following methods have been added to the ObjectProxy class in API version 3.

• createEqualsValue (other:com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.ObjectProxy): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Creates a BooleanValue that determines this proxy is considered equal to another proxy.

API version 2

The following classes have been updated or added in API version 2.

Application

The following methods have been added to the Application class in API version 2.

• displayProfile (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.StringValue
  Value that reports the name of the active display profile.
• hasActiveEngine (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports whether an audio engine is active or not.
• navigateIntoTrackGroup (track:com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.Track): void
  Set BitwigStudio to navigate into the group.
• navigateToParentTrackGroup (): void
  Set BitwigStudio to navigate into the parent group.
• panelLayout (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.StringValue
  Value that reports the name of the active panel layout.
• projectName (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.StringValue
  Value that reports the name of the current project.

Bank

The following methods have been added to the Bank class in API version 2.

• cursorIndex (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.SettableIntegerValue
  An integer value that defines the location of the cursor that this bank is following.
• getItemAt (index:int): ItemType
  Gets the item in the bank at the supplied index.
• getSizeOfBank (): int
  The fixed size of this bank.
• itemCount (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.IntegerValue
  Value that reports the underlying total item count (not the number of items available in the bank window).

BeatTimeFormatter

The following methods have been added to the BeatTimeFormatter class in API version 2.

• formatBeatTime (beatTime:double, isAbsolute:boolean, timeSignatureNumerator:int, timeSignatureDenominator:int, timeSignatureTicks:int): string
  Formats the supplied beat time as a string in the supplied time signature.

BeatTimeValue

The following methods have been added to the BeatTimeValue class in API version 2.

• getFormatted (formatter:com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BeatTimeFormatter): string
  Gets the current beat time formatted according to the supplied formatter.
• getFormatted (): string
  Gets the current beat time formatted according to the default beat time formatter.

BooleanValue

The following methods have been added to the BooleanValue class in API version 2.

• get (): boolean
  Gets the current value.

BrowserColumn

The following methods have been added to the BrowserColumn class in API version 2.

• entryCount (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.IntegerValue
  Value that reports the underlying total count of column entries (not the size of the column window).

BrowserFilterColumn

The following methods have been added to the BrowserFilterColumn class in API version 2.

• name (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.StringValue
  Value that reports the name of the filter column.

BrowserFilterItem

The following methods have been added to the BrowserFilterItem class in API version 2.

• hitCount (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.IntegerValue
  Value that reports the hit count of the filter item.

BrowserItem

The following methods have been added to the BrowserItem class in API version 2.

• name (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.StringValue
  Value that reports the name of the browser item.

BrowsingSession

The following methods have been added to the BrowsingSession class in API version 2.

• hitCount (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.IntegerValue
  Value that reports the number of results available for the current filter settings.

Channel

The following methods have been added to the Channel class in API version 2.

• color (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.SettableColorValue
  Get the color of the channel.
• playingNotes (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.PlayingNoteArrayValue
  Returns an array of the playing notes.
• sendBank (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.SendBank
  Gets a SendBank that can be used to navigate the sends of this channel.

ChannelBank

The following methods have been added to the ChannelBank class in API version 2.

• canScrollChannelsDown (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports if the channel bank can be scrolled further down.
• canScrollChannelsUp (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports if the channel bank can be scrolled further down.
• channelCount (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.IntegerValue
  Value that reports the underlying total channel count (not the number of channels available in the bank window).
• channelScrollPosition (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.IntegerValue
  Value that reports the current scroll position, more specifically the position of the first channel within the underlying list of channels, that is shown as channel zero within the bank.

Clip

The following methods have been added to the Clip class in API version 2.

• canScrollKeysDown (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports if the note grid keys can be scrolled further down.
• canScrollKeysUp (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports if the note grid keys can be scrolled further up.
• canScrollStepsBackwards (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports if the note grid if the note grid steps can be scrolled backwards.
• canScrollStepsForwards (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports if the note grid if the note grid steps can be scrolled forwards.
• color (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.SettableColorValue
  Get the color of the clip.
• playingStep (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.IntegerValue
  Value that reports note grid cells as they get played by the sequencer.

ClipLauncherSlot

The following methods have been added to the ClipLauncherSlot class in API version 2.

• browseToInsertClip (): void
  Starts browsing for content that can be inserted in this slot in Bitwig Studio's popup browser.
• color (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.ColorValue
  Value that reports the color of this slot.
• hasContent (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports whether this slot has content or not.

ClipLauncherSlotOrScene

The following methods have been added to the ClipLauncherSlotOrScene class in API version 2.

• name (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.StringValue
  Returns an object that provides access to the name of the scene.
• sceneIndex (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.IntegerValue
  Value that reports the position of the scene within the list of Bitwig Studio scenes.

ColorValue

The following methods have been added to the ColorValue class in API version 2.

• blue (): float
  Gets the blue component of the current value.
• green (): float
  Gets the green component of the current value.
• red (): float
  Gets the red component of the current value.

ControllerHost

The following methods have been added to the ControllerHost class in API version 2.

• createBeatTimeFormatter (separator:string, barsLen:int, beatsLen:int, subdivisionLen:int, ticksLen:int): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BeatTimeFormatter
  Creates a BeatTimeFormatter that can be used to format beat times.
• createPopupBrowser (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.PopupBrowser
  Creates a PopupBrowser that represents the pop-up browser in Bitwig Studio.
• defaultBeatTimeFormatter (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BeatTimeFormatter
  BeatTimeFormatter used to format beat times by default.
• requestFlush (): void
  Requests that the driver's flush method gets called.
• scheduleTask (callback:java.lang.Runnable, delay:long): void
  Schedules the given callback function for execution after the given delay.
• setDefaultBeatTimeFormatter (formatter:com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BeatTimeFormatter): void
  Sets the BeatTimeFormatter to use by default for formatting beat times.

Cursor

The following methods have been added to the Cursor class in API version 2.

• hasNext (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Boolean value that reports whether there is an item after the current cursor position.
• hasPrevious (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Boolean value that reports whether there is an item before the current cursor position.

CursorRemoteControlsPage

The following methods have been added to the CursorRemoteControlsPage class in API version 2.

• selectNextPage (shouldCycle:boolean): void
  Selects the next page.
• selectNextPageMatching (expression:string, shouldCycle:boolean): void
  Selects the next page that matches the given expression.
• selectPreviousPage (shouldCycle:boolean): void
  Selects the previous page.
• selectPreviousPageMatching (expression:string, shouldCycle:boolean): void
  Selects the previous page that matches the given expression.
• selectedPageIndex (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.SettableIntegerValue
  Value that reports the currently selected parameter page index.

CursorTrack

The following methods have been added to the CursorTrack class in API version 2.

• createCursorDevice (id:string, name:string, numSends:int, followMode:com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.CursorDeviceFollowMode): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.PinnableCursorDevice
  Creates a CursorDevice for this cursor track that by default follows a device based on the supplied follow mode.
• selectFirstChild (): void
  Makes the cursor track point to the first child found with the track group that this cursor currently points to.

Device

The following methods have been added to the Device class in API version 2.

• browseToInsertAfterDevice (): void
  Starts browsing for content that can be inserted before this device in Bitwig Studio's popup browser.
• browseToInsertBeforeDevice (): void
  Starts browsing for content that can be inserted before this device in Bitwig Studio's popup browser.
• browseToReplaceDevice (): void
  Starts browsing for content that can replace this device in Bitwig Studio's popup browser.
• createCursorRemoteControlsPage (parameterCount:int): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.CursorRemoteControlsPage
  Creates a cursor for the selected remote controls page in the device with the supplied number of parameters.
• createCursorRemoteControlsPage (name:string, parameterCount:int, filterExpression:string): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.CursorRemoteControlsPage
  Creates a cursor for a remote controls page in the device with the supplied number of parameters.
• isEnabled (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.SettableBooleanValue
  Value that reports if the device is enabled.
• isPlugin (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports if the device is a plugin.
• isRemoteControlsSectionVisible (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.SettableBooleanValue
  Returns an object that provides access to the visibility of the device remote controls section.
• name (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.StringValue
  Value that reports the name of the device.
• position (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.IntegerValue
  Value that reports the position of the device within the parent device chain.

  Value that reports the current preset category name.

  Value that reports the last loaded preset name.

  Value that reports the file name of the currently loaded sample, in case the device is a sample container device.

  Value of the list of available FX slots in this device.

DeviceBank

The following methods have been added to the DeviceBank class in API version 2.

• browseToInsertDevice (index:int): void
  Browses for content to insert a device at the given index inside this bank.

DeviceChain

The following methods have been added to the DeviceChain class in API version 2.

• browseToInsertAtEndOfChain (): void
  Starts browsing for content that can be inserted at the end of this device chain.
• browseToInsertAtStartOfChain (): void
  Starts browsing for content that can be inserted at the start of this device chain.
• name (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.SettableStringValue
  Value that reports the name of the device chain, such as the track name or the drum pad name.

DoubleValue

The following methods have been added to the DoubleValue class in API version 2.

• get (): double
  Gets the current value.

EnumValue

The following methods have been added to the EnumValue class in API version 2.

  Gets the current value.

GenericBrowsingSession

The following methods have been added to the GenericBrowsingSession class in API version 2.

  Value that reports the name of the browsing session.

Host

  Sets an email address to use for reporting errors found in this script.

IntegerValue

  Gets the current value.

ModulationSource

The following methods have been added to the ModulationSource class in API version 2.

• isMapped (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value which reports if the modulation source is mapped to any destination(s).
• isMapping (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value which reports when the modulation source is in mapping mode.
• name (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.StringValue
  Value the reports the name of the modulation source.

NoteLane

The following methods have been added to the NoteLane class in API version 2.

• noteLaneId (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.IntegerValue
  Value which represents the id of this lane.

ObjectArrayValue

The following methods have been added to the ObjectArrayValue class in API version 2.

Parameter

The following methods have been added to the Parameter class in API version 2.

• modulatedValue (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.RangedValue
  Gets the modulated value of this parameter.
• name (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.StringValue
  The name of the parameter.
• value (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.SettableRangedValue
  Gets the current value of this parameter.

ParameterBank

The following methods have been added to the ParameterBank class in API version 2.

• getParameter (indexInBank:int): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.Parameter
  Returns the parameter at the given index within the bank.
• getParameterCount (): int
  Gets the number of slots that these remote controls have.

PinnableCursor

The following methods have been added to the PinnableCursor class in API version 2.

• isPinned (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.SettableBooleanValue
  Determines if this cursor is currently pinned or not.

PlayingNote

  Gets the current value.

Scene

The following methods have been added to the Scene class in API version 2.

  Value that reports the number of clips in the scene.

  Returns an object that provides access to the name of the scene.

Scrollable

The following methods have been added to the Scrollable class in API version 2.

• canScrollBackwards (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports if it is possible to scroll the bank backwards or not.
• canScrollForwards (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports if it is possible to scroll the bank forwards or not.
• scrollBackwards (): void
  Scrolls forwards by one step.
• scrollForwards (): void
  Scrolls forwards by one step.

Send

The following methods have been added to the Send class in API version 2.

  Value that reports the color of the channel that this send sends to.

SettableColorValue

The following methods have been added to the SettableColorValue class in API version 2.

• set (red:float, green:float, blue:float): void
  Sets the internal value.

SettableRangedValue

The following methods have been added to the SettableRangedValue class in API version 2.

• inc (increment:double): void
  Increments or decrements the value by a normalized amount assuming the whole range of the value is 0 .
• set (value:double): void
  Sets the value in an absolute fashion as a value between 0 .

SettableStringArrayValue

The following methods have been added to the SettableStringArrayValue class in API version 2.

• set (value:String[]): void
  Sets the internal value.

StringArrayValue

The following methods have been added to the StringArrayValue class in API version 2.

• get (): String[]
  Gets the current value.

StringValue

The following methods have been added to the StringValue class in API version 2.

• get (): string
  Gets the current value.
• getLimited (maxLength:int): string
  Gets the current value and tries to intelligently limit it to the supplied length in the best way possible.

TimeSignatureValue

The following methods have been added to the TimeSignatureValue class in API version 2.

  Gets the current value.

Track

The following methods have been added to the Track class in API version 2.

• clipLauncherSlotBank (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.ClipLauncherSlotBank
  Returns an object that can be used to access the clip launcher slots of the track.
• isGroup (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports if the track may contain child tracks, which is the case for group tracks.
• isQueuedForStop (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports if the clip launcher slots are queued for stop.
• isStopped (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.BooleanValue
  Value that reports if this track is currently stopped.
• position (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.IntegerValue
  Value that reports the position of the track within the list of Bitwig Studio tracks.

  Value that reports the track type.

TrackBank

The following methods have been added to the TrackBank class in API version 2.

• followCursorTrack (cursorTrack:com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.CursorTrack): void
  Causes this bank to follow the supplied cursor.
• sceneBank (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.SceneBank
  SceneBank that represents a view on the scenes in this TrackBank.

Transport

The following methods have been added to the Transport class in API version 2.

• automationWriteMode (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.SettableEnumValue
  Value that reports the current automation write mode.
• clipLauncherPostRecordingAction (): com.bitwig.extension.controller.api.SettableEnumValue
  Value that reports the current clip launcher post recording action.

  Value that reports if automation write is currently enabled for the arranger.
